Woohoo!! Happy Day after Thanksgiving! Here’s a little road trip selfie for ya…
If you are a brave person, you may be out and about shopping, and for that, I salute you. I will not be joining in that particular tradition, and for that I am truly thankful 😉 This morning, my mother-in-law and I will be making pies for our Christmas celebration today and tomorrow, and then picking up my sweet sister-in-law at the airport when she flies in to join us in time for Christmas (again, our Christmas is tomorrow). We are having fried quail tonight before opening presents, and then our big Christmas meal tomorrow, so be on the lookout for some recipe posts soon! 🙂
We had a great Thanksgiving yesterday, including a wonderful meal and a great Christmas card pic session.
And yes… Gump is incredibly heavy! And more on our Christmas card here in a little bit…
Even though it’s been a busy holiday around here, we still have a few favorites to talk about!
- Walmart Grocery Pick Up
So, I’ve been toying with the idea using the Walmart grocery pick up and this was the week I decided to give it a go to get all my supplies for pie making this week. Part of this was facilitated by the fact that my husband and I began getting each other’s Christmas gifts last weekend (and just using them instead of wrapping them and giving them later. He has to work on Christmas day, anyway), and my gift was an iPhone 7. I was previously rolling with an 8 GB iPhone 5C, which meant I was constantly having to delete things off my phone to make room for new things, and it was just getting old. Now I have 32 GB, which feels like so beyond the most room you could ever need.
That being said, I finally had room to download the Walmart Grocery Pick Up App, which is pretty dang cool. So, I logged in, picked a pick up time, and started putting things in my cart. You can search for exactly what you need, and then place it in your cart, and I think they have just about everything you could think that you needed. Probably the one down side is that you have to plan ahead- I started assembling my list Sunday afternoon and the earliest pick up time available was 8-9 AM Monday morning. Once I finalized my list, I checked out, and then still had a few hours to make changes if I needed to.
On Monday morning, Walmart actually called me a little before 8 to tell me that my order was ready. When I was leaving the house, I checked in on the app, so they knew I was coming, and how long it would be before I would arrive at the store.
Once I got to Walmart, I pulled into one of the designated spots for pick up.
And within five minutes, a wagon with my groceries arrived. She helped me load them into the car, and gave me a special bag full of goodies as a welcome/thank you gift.
Y’all, I am in love with this service.
2. The Pioneer Woman Mercantile
I think I’ve mentioned that I am a student of the Pioneer Woman, and she is one of my main life role models. A large chunk of our wedding registry was her newly released home goods line, and I couldn’t love all the wares any more if I tried. They are beautiful and sturdy, and well made.
Recently, she opened her store, The Mercantile, in Pawhuska, OK. It features a bakery, a deli, and a storefront with some of the most amazing and unique finds.
Much to my sadness, Pawhuska is much further away from us than I realized, so a trip to The Merc is not really in my immediate future, BUT- The Merc has a website!
These are just a few of the things I ordered from The Merc as Christmas gifts. They are so unique! (The dog is actually a plastic sack holder/dispenser, so you push all your leftover grocery sacks in there, and then pull one out when you need it. Genius, and adorable!)
And here is what nearly made my heart explode…
REE SENT ME A HANDWRITTEN NOTE IN MY BOX, Y’ALL.
Now, I realize, as I am not delusional, that she did not likely write that herself, but I am going to live in my world where the Pioneer Woman sent me a handwritten note on her adorable custom notecards.
If you are in need of some unique Christmas gifts, take a look at The Merc! I will definitely be back!
3. Crosman Marines Airsoft Target Kit
When Steven and I were shopping for Christmas last weekend, we ran across this at Academy and decided it was something we clearly needed.
Basically, you have two airsoft pistols that take red or blue pellets in the clip. You shoot the pistols at the target, and they stick in the target.
THIS IS SO FUN, Y’ALL. It’s a little tedious filling the clips, but the actual shooting is pretty dang fun.
AND- because of Black Friday, this is actually on sale at half price now (we were just a little too early!) Click here to check it out!
4. Vistaprint
Alright, y’all, Vistaprint has been my go-to for printing for a while now. They did an excellent job on all the stationary for our wedding (I had the invites and accompanying stationary, along with the programs and things designed on Etsy, and then printed by Vistaprint), and they are SO reasonably priced.
I have been planning our Christmas cards on Vistaprint for the last few weeks, and have just been waiting for our last picture to be able to finish them and order them. They sent me a flyer in the mail with a longstanding code for 50% off (CHEER50) so I knew they would for sure be half off, but they happen to also be running a 60% off sale this week for Black Friday (BESTDEALS).
Y’all- I got 125 Christmas cards for $38.99. That’s insane.
If you haven’t ordered your Christmas cards yet, definitely take a look here, and use those coupon codes above if you want a HUGE discount!
5. Gilmore Girls- A Year in the Life
Y’all- we have been waiting for this for so long, and it’s finally here. Miracles truly do come true.
Gilmore Girls was a huge formative force in my college years. I realize that I was little late to the party, as the series ended about the time I went to college, but I’ve watched all seven seasons multiple times since then, to the point that it was basically become television comfort food to me.
As of midnight this morning, four new 90 minute episodes premiered on Netflix, and this is what we have been waiting for for years! Shelby and I are planning to watch it this afternoon, so I can’t speak to how amazing it is just yet, but I have a great feeling based on all the (extensive) interviews I’ve watched and the many, many times I’ve watched the trailer.
So, enjoy the trailer here, and go watch the actual series now.
Happy Holidays, y’all! Starting preparing yourselves for my Christmas overload!
We are so proud of Ruger’s training process! Check out his latest skill…
And if you need a good laugh, check out Gump in this video…
