What’s Up Wednesday {6.26.19}

Happy end of June (and start of summer!), friends! Time for What’s Up Wednesday with Shay and Sheaffer again!

What We’re Eating…

My current plan for the week is…

Monday: salmon, roasted zucchini/squash, and green salad

Tuesday: BBQ grilled chicken, microwave potatoes, and green salad

Wednesday: Dinner out

Thursday: Fajitas

Friday: Steak, baked potatoes, and stuffed mushrooms

Saturday: Dinner out

We’re trying our hand at carb cycling (moving between low, moderate, and high carb days with a set number of carbs to shoot for each day based on this equation Steven researched), and so far it’s going well!

What I’m Reminiscing About…

3 years ago was our last set of graduations…

And earlier this month, we had another graduation! Steven graduated from internal medicine residency in mid June. I am so stinking proud of him! This has seemed like the longest and shortest years of our life, but it’s been just the best to do life with him, even through the craziness of residency.

He’s been in fellowship orientation this week, and then he officially starts as a fellow on July 1! After their graduation ceremony, we went to a seafood restaurant overlooking the lake here for a late celebration lunch. Livy was less than amused…

But we went for Mexican food later that night with queso on the patio and that’s apparently more her style 🙂

What I’m Loving…

How gorgeous are these peonies?? I grabbed them at the grocery store last week and am totally in love. I’ve been loving squeezing in quiet moments like this to get a little work done, look at my pretty flowers, listen to my Spotify playlist of acapella hymns, smell that sun washed citrus candle from Bath and Body Works, and drink my coffee before Liv gets up and tornados our house. ((And those are fake tulips… haha! Those stay out all the time, but the peonies are real!))

What I’ve Been Up To…

June has been busy! The first weekend (and where we left off last month with What’s Up Wednesday) we were at the lake with Steven’s family…

The next weekend, we had a wedding for one of my co-workers on Saturday…

And then a baby shower for one of our sweet friends at church here in Temple on Sunday afternoon. I found this little Mudpie ruffle romper at a boutique on sale on our fishing trip and I am so in love! I wish she was this little and ruffly forever!

We had graduation the next Friday, and another baby shower on Saturday in Houston. It was baseball themed, so we had to represent for our favorite team in the College World Series! ((And a side note, I’m wearing the MOST comfy skort in this pic below and in one of our fishing pics. It’s like wearing athletic shorts but they look way nicer! I highly recommend it!))

The next day was Father’s Day and we tried to spoil Steven as much as we could! We had lunch at Pappadeaux (Liv loves their bread. And loves to eat it as aggressively as possible, haha!), went skeet shooting that afternoon, and had a delicious dinner at home of filets, lobster tails, mac and cheese and Red Lobster biscuits.

The next week Steven worked nights, so we were all off our schedule and just lived on the fly, haha. His shifts as a 3rd year were 5 PM- midnight or until the beds were filled, so sometimes he got home earlier than that, and we just didn’t know. On Saturday night, they had a staff vs. fellows basketball game at the rec center, and it was so fun!

And this weekend is our last weekend before fellowship officially starts!

What I’m Dreading

It has been humid as all get out here because we’ve had so much rain, and I know it’s just going to get hotter… Is it Christmas yet?

What I’ve Been Working On…

Our office is expanding and opening another location, so I’m in the process of moving to our new location since I’m part time and this is a smaller clinic. It’s going to be nice to have my own office again (right now I share an office 3 days a week, and another audiologist comes the other 2. She’s coming on full time, so she’ll keep our office and I’m moving to the new one, but the entire time we’ve been in this arrangement, we’ve had to explain to patients why we both have stuff up on the walls, etc. which I’m looking forward to not explaining anymore, haha!), and I’m excited about the other people who have moved to the new office from our old one so I think it’ll be a really good change of pace! I’ve been at the old office for two years, so it’s a little sad to leave, but at least I’m working with the same sweet people!

What I’m Excited About…

I can’t really think of anything in particular… I guess I’m excited to see what our new normal will look like here in the next few weeks? I’m super excited to have Steven around a little more often, but more to just have a little more consistency with our schedule.

What I’m Watching/ Reading…

We finished True Detective season 3, and it was so suspenseful! (but good!!) Right now we’re watching Yellowstone as the new season comes out (definitely rated R even though it’s on cable, so beware), and we just started the new comedy on Netflix called Mr. Iglesias with Gabriel Iglesias. It has a modern Saved by the Bell feel to it (and by that, I mean it’s definitely got it’s cheesy moments!), but overall it’s pretty funny, clean, and cute. We’ve also recently watched the new Netflix movies Always Be My Maybe (loved!!) and Murder Mystery (liked!!). And as my background noise when I’m here during the day, etc. I’ve just been rematching Gilmore Girls for the millionth time.

I finished The Wondering Years at the lake and really enjoyed it! Knox does so well riding the line of humor and sentimentality and it was a great laugh and smile kind of memoir.

After two consecutive renewals from the library (at 3 weeks each), I also finally finished The Royal We and LOVED it. I’m mildly obsessed with the Royal family (although, unpopular opinion– I’m not a huge Meghan Markle fan to be honest. Team William and Kate all the way!), so this book checked all the boxes– American that gets to be a royal? Check! A good looking and very sweet prince? Check! A whirlwind college romance? Check! British history and tradition? Check! Hijinks that end in a royal wedding? Check check! Melanie Shankle shared on the Big Boo Cast that a sequel is forthcoming in 2020 and I. am. pumped!

Next on my list are It’s a Love Story by the amazing Lincee Ray (which I learned a month or two ago that we have one degree of separation- one of my friends from college is in her Bible study, so between that and my obsession with reading ihategreenbeans.com and listening to the I Hate Green Beans podcast every week, I’m certain we’re friends. Right?). I also have a copy of Where the Crawdads Sing from a friend that I’ll probably move to after that, but we shall see!

What I’m Listening To…

Current Fave Podcast Episodes:

–That Sounds Fun with Annie F. Downs

  • I have absolutely LOVED EnneaSummer 2019 with Annie! She’s been going through all the Enneagram numbers through the month of June and I find everything Enneagram SO fascinating! I’m a 2, and I swore Steven is an 8, but the test I had him take said 7. That seems way off to me, but I haven’t finished the 8 podcast or listened to the 7 episode yet, so maybe I’ll feel more like that’s right after I hear that? I’m also planning to read Suzanne Stabile’s books (The Road Back to You and The Path Between Us) just to get a better idea of all the intricacies of this system and how it can change our perspective and actions.

-I Hate Green Beans with Lincee Ray

  • As mentioned above, Lincee is the best! Her Bachelorette recaps with Some Guy in Austin are my favorite! (Okay, they tie with The Popcast’s recaps… but both are so funny!).

What I’m Wearing…

I don’t think I’ve been wearing anything particularly amazing, haha! See above for my awesome skort…

What I’m Doing This Weekend…

I’m not 100% sure what we’ll do, but I’m sure we’ll find something fun to celebrate Steven’s last weekend before fellowship starts!

What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month…

Next month feels busy already… my mom is coming to stay for a few days to cover while our nanny is out of town with family, so we’re looking forward to having her. Fourth of July is always fun, and I think this year we’re having a get-together type thing at our church parking lot with the young families group because it’s a prime spot for our city fireworks show. Once Steven starts fellowship, his schedule is much more consistent other than his weeks on hospital call, so we’re really looking forward to that! And last, but not least… someone (me) turns 30 at the end of the month. I’m honestly not sad about it because it already feels like we’re in our 30s! Bring on the birthday Nothing Bundt Cake! And I’m planning to get home in time that day to do a live Peloton ride so I can hopefully get a birthday shout out!

What Else is New…

All the moms in our young families group at church got together at the beginning of the summer and have been organizing weekly playdates for the littles through the summer. It has been so fun! We’ve walked the trails and then played on the playground at one of our local parks…

The next week, we all met for dinner at our local Hat Creek (great burgers with a nice outdoor dining area and super fun playground for the kiddos!) one night. Steven was moonlighting that night, so he got to hear all the next day about Olivia’s new boyfriend…

That little cutie is about 1.5-2 years older than her, and is just the sweetest thing. He helped her up the steps on the playground and then stuck with her most of the time after that looking out for her and playing with her. It was so cute! His mom and I have known each other for a couple years and they are a super sweet family so I was good with the match. Dad on the other hand… I’m not sure he’s ready for any boyfriends, haha!

It’s been so fun watching her play with other kids and interact with people/ things she isn’t familiar with. We’re headed tomorrow to one of the splash pads in town, so I’m excited to see how she reacts to that!

When she isn’t picking up boys, Liv has been busy at the park helping Dad train dogs! She yells from our blanket on the side at them while he trains with them, and loves hanging out there. We’ve been sneaking in some selfies, too. And she’s been practicing inside with her spotted dog from Grand Betty and Papa Wayne while we’re at work.

And we turned Livy’s activity center into a table a few weeks ago, and now she loves to sit at it and draw with her Etch a Sketch!

And I think that’s about it… Happy July, y’all!
