Sausage Puffs

Happy Wednesday, sweet friends! Are you looking for something delicious to have as an appetizer or a small breakfast item? Try some sausage puffs!

These were born from an idea involving sausage balls, another sausage puff recipe, and a need for an appetizer for our home group Christmas party last week. (I also took dessert, so check out the next post for that recipe!)

What You Need:

  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
    • I used traditional Owens. You can use whatever brand is your favorite, or spicy if you like! 😉
  • 1 8 oz. package of cream cheese
  • 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese
  • 3 packages of mini Fillo shells
    • This is 45 shells total, and I filled each and every one, with a little mixture to spare!
    • You find these in the frozen section near the ready-made pie crusts!

Start by browning your sausage in a skillet over medium heat. (I drained the fat off because I always drain fat off any ground meat I’m cooking.)

Next, add in your cream cheese and cheddar cheese. Stir to combine and leave the heat on low to medium to help the cheeses melt and combine.

Use a teaspoon to fill each Fillo shell. I just lined them up on a baking pan.

Once I had all of them lined up and filled (and there were A LOT!), I covered them with foil and refrigerated them overnight. Everything in them is cooked at that point (the shells are pre-cooked), so they are good to go.

The next day, right before our party, I put them in a 350* oven for 5-10 minutes with the foil on (to keep the shells from burning) to warm up and let the shells get crispy.

So, if you are needing a tasty breakfast or appetizer that is very simple, quick, and easy to transport, look no further!
