Fall is not pumpkin season for me, friends. It’s s’mores season.
I think some people lean more toward summer being s’mores season, but these people must not live in Texas because there’s no way on Earth you’d want to sit next to a fire in the summer. We already do– it’s called the sun.
Anywho, I love me some s’mores in fall and winter when it’s nice to have a fire, long story short. But– they are kind of involved and sometimes they are kind of a mess. But I think I found the perfect solution for that…
S’mores Snack Mix!
Last week, I was looking for something to send for the Temple Medical Education Alliance (which is basically the medical spouse group for the area) monthly bake sale (to raise money for our local children’s hospital) and was struggling a little. Then I found a recipe for S’mores Snack Mix on Pinterest, tweaked it a little, and we have a WINNER, friends! It was easy, it was delicious, it was super s’more-ey!
To make this magic, you will need…
The Essentials:
- Golden Grahams cereal
- Pretzels
- Mini Marshmallows
- Chocolate Chips
Optional:
- Teddy Grahams (Honey, Chocolate, or Both)
- Mini Reese’s (I think these would be AWESOME in this, but I left them out in case of PB allergies)
- Mini Hershey squares
- Peanut butter chips (*possible allergen)
- Caramel melts
- Nuts of any kind (pecans, walnuts, peanuts, almonds, etc.) (*again, be aware of possible allergies)
- Anything else you think would be delicious in this! The sky is the limit!
I pulled out three baking sheets, lined them with foil, and sprayed them with baking spray. Pull out whatever size you have/ want (this is one of those great recipes where there are NO RULES. make this however your heart desires!).
I literally dumped all the ingredients across the pans until everything looked evenly distributed. Arrange as you please.
Turn on the broiler in the oven to the lowest setting. Put the pan in and stand next to the stove. You only want this in there long enough to toast the marshmallows and melt the chocolate chips, which (in my experience) did not take longer than about two minutes, tops. And trust me, friends. There is not a lot of time between toasted and reeeeeeal burnt.
Once you get a golden toast on your marshmallows, pull the pan out and let it cool.
You may have excellent help in the kitchen like I did during this process…
Until their dad came home and they were all about him…
And THAT IS IT. Once it has cooled, you can scoop it up and package it how you like. Since this was being sold at the bake sale, I put them in little Halloween themed cellophane bags and tied them with curled ribbon.
The one thing I think I’ll do differently next time (and y’all can take this tip and learn from my mistakes)- I think I would put it in the fridge or let it REALLY cool before trying to bag it up. My chocolate and marshmallows were still pretty gooey when I was trying to get it in the bags, so the tops of the bags got a little messy with melted chocolate. I think having everything cooled would allow you to just break it apart into chunks and put it in the bags or however you want to package it.
If you are a mom looking for something for a kids’ party, or need something to take to a work party, or just want a great big batch of easy s’mores, this is for you!
Thanks for stopping by and let me know if you have any questions! Happy Fall, y’all! 🙂
